Most home appliances such as Refrigerators, Washing Machines, Dishwashers or Clothes dryers are a requisite these days. And more appliances means the there is more concern for home owners regarding energy wastage and the efficient running of these appliances is important. This has led appliance manufacturers to design better equipment with lower wattage motors or compressors, with more sensors to monitor the various running states of these appliances so quick action can be taken remain energy efficient.
In Dish washers and Washing machines, the processor needs to know that the door is closed and latched, so that the automatic cycle can be started and water can be pumped into the system. This is to ensure that there is no wastage of water and consequently, power. In Refrigerators and deep freezers, the processor needs to control the lighting inside and also check that the compartments doors are closed to avoid energy wastage. This is done so that the signal is used to trigger an alarm so the food inside does not get warm.
All door sensing in white goods and appliances is accomplished with a reed sensor mounted inside the appliance and a magnet on the door. Special Magnet Sensors withstanding higher shock and vibration can be used.
